Half a mile from Killybegs, the font still stands outside Prosperous church, its octagonal limestone basin balanced on a column tall enough to force a kneeling child to look up. One face carries a worn angel with a halo, shield pressed across its stomach like a guard against forgetting. The shape echoes fonts in County Meath dated to the mid and late 15th century, suggesting this is no ordinary church dish but a survivor from a lost parish, moved rather than buried.

Stands outside the entrance to Prosperous church, but according to Comerford (1866, 79) it originally came from the medieval parish church (KD013-019----) in Killybegs Demesne townland, c. 1 mile to the SE. An octagonal limestone font (dims. L 0.64m; Wth 0.64m; each face measuring 0.46m in Wth; H 0.26m) sits on an octagonal limestone column (total H c. 1.5m). One face bears the deeply carved but partially worn figure of an angel with a halo holding a shield across its stomach; a motif which is paralleled on some Co. Meath fonts such as those at Dunsany (MH037-019----) and Rathmore (MH024-017----), which have been dated by Roe to the mid and late-15th c. Compiled by: Gearóid Conroy Date of upload: 10 June 2011
