What is recorded here
Indicated is a fairy fort in County Mayo, Ireland. It occupies the top of a ridge above Levallinree Lough, where an earth and stone bank still marks an oval space wide enough for a small household or a crowded dance. The breaks in its perimeter admit a road, a field boundary and perhaps the coming and going of people who stopped to look east. Its level interior preserves no chamber or hearth, leaving behind a shape large enough to inhabit and empty enough to wonder about.
In pasture, located on the top of the E side of a N−S ridge, which provides extensive views to NE and E. Levallinree Lough is located 760m to E. The rath is located at the W end of, and spans full the N−S width of a narrow rectilinear field. The townland boundary respect the curve of the rath at N, and a bye-road skirts the W side of the rath.
Oval area (35m E−W; 30m N−S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 2m; int. H 1m; ext. H 1.5m). The bank is best preserved at NNW−NNE, and at ESE−SW, where there are traces of possible stone facing on the internal and external faces. There are breaks in the bank at SW, NE and E. The interior is level and featureless. The perimeter is ringed with thorn bushes.
