Man-made underground passage in Croughal

Situated at the NE edge of a low rise, in pasture, with wide views to N and E and overlooked by rising ground to S and W. Barrow (WM025-036----) lies c. 40m to N. Located to the immediate ESE of ringfort (WM025-037001-) is a depression which leads into a corbelled chamber of a Man-made underground passage. Described in 1971 as short portions of the ends of two Man-made underground passage galleries are visible and accessible. They are very near each other and almost end to end but not quite on the same alignment. A very low narrow passage way extends to ENE from this and does not appear to extend back to the ringfort. In close proximity to field system whereby a field bank running NE-SW abuts the monument to E and two other field banks are in close proximity to N and SSW.
