What is recorded here

Cinn Aird Thoir is a small burial ground where one thin red sandstone slab still stands beside grave three ninety-seven, its cross cut sharp enough to suggest a steady hand and a great deal of care. The survey came later, in 2011, but the stone had already done its work: marking one life, holding one place, and waiting for rain, foottraffic and time to soften its edges.

In 2011 a graveyard survey carried out by Ann Frykler and Robert Hanbidge of Headland Archaeology Ltd. recorded the following details about a cross-inscribed stone (Miscellaneous No. 08): ‘A thin slab of old red sandstone with sharply inscribed cross forming gravemarker to Grave No. 397’ (Hanbidge 2011, 12).
