What is recorded here

Cinn Aird Thoir holds a water-rolled red sandstone marker for grave 396, its cross roughly picked rather than finely cut. The stone has suffered rain, burial and forgetting, yet it still points to one dead person instead of disappearing into ordinary rubble. That much is known; the life behind it has faded.

In 2011 a graveyard survey carried out by Ann Frykler and Robert Hanbidge of Headland Archaeology Ltd. recorded the following details about a cross-inscribed stone (Miscellaneous No. 07): ‘Water rolled piece of old red sandstone with inscribed cross (roughly picked) forming gravemarker to Grave No. 396’ (Hanbidge 2011, 12).
