Cross in Kilcloony (dunmore By.)

Cross

What is recorded here

Kilcloony is a Galway burial ground holding two rough stone crosses, one measured at 0.8m high and 0.4m wide before both vanished from the older part by 2019. They may have marked graves, prayers or warnings, but the earth kept that secret. What remains is a hole in the landscape where stone once stood, inviting imagination to fill the gap with ghosts, grief or forgotten craft.
Located within a burial ground (GA016-063001-). Two roughly cut stone crosses were noted in the older part of the burial ground on inspection in October 1984 (SMR file). This one was 0.8m high and 0.4m wide; date unknown. For details on the other see GA016-063003-. Neither were located during a site visit in 2019 (FitzPatrick 2019, 28).
