What is recorded here
This cross known only from Wakeman’s drawing of 1839 (Wakeman 1839a), which depicts it standing in an open-ended socketed base, is missing. It has been suggested that the broken cross-base (see GA021-026075-) that was previously placed on the altar in the church (GA021-026014-) is the base depicted (Fisher 2014, 214, no. 59, Fig. 7.10). The cruciform cross had slightly tapering side-arms and an expanded upper arm with a peaked top. The upper part of the shaft was straight but the lower part expanded to fill the socket. (White Marshall and Rourke 2000, 158, no. 34)
