Cinn Aird Thoir holds a rudimentary red sandstone cross that still marks grave 403, joining Christian symbolism to an older rocky landscape. The stone is not grand, yet it survives because people kept returning, naming the dead and shaping memory into a visible line. That much is known. What is less certain is whether the cross marked one life, a family or a whole buried neighbourhood, but even uncertainty gives the place its depth.

In 2011 a graveyard survey carried out by Ann Frykler and Robert Hanbidge of Headland Archaeology Ltd. recorded the following details about a possible cross (Miscellaneous No. 18): ‘Rudimentary cross slab carved from old red sandstone, also forming gravemarker to Grave No. 403’ (Hanbidge 2011, 12).
