What is recorded here

In 1992, a birch roundwood lay exposed in County Offaly peatland, waiting to be measured when destruction erased the site before any record could be written. The loss is not innocent; it is a warning about eagerness, care and the difference between seeing and knowing. What is wanted is not more excitement but more judgement, because clarity is a gift and certainty is a trap.

The location of this site was surveyed but the site was destroyed before a written record could be made. A birch roundwood, however, was identified from this site. Recorded by the Irish Archaeological Wetland Unit (University College, Dublin) in 1992. The evidence is not sufficient to warrant its acceptance as the remains of an archaeological monument.
