What is recorded here

Crannog is a man-made island, often built with timber and earth, where people lived above wet ground. In Drumclay and Knockalough, that idea still belongs to the land even when the island has sunk or vanished. The name preserves a choice made long ago: to take water, shape it, and place a home inside it.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.C./MED. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
