Gallagher's Isle is a twenty-metre crannog in Gartan Lough, built rather than born. It is the kind of place where a family might have stacked stones and timber to keep the water at arm's length, then lived above the lake like a room taken from the sky. The isle still floats in the mind's eye, small enough to circle in minutes yet large enough to hold hearth smoke, children's laughter and the risk of drowning.

A small island, c. 20m in diameter in Gartan Lough known as Gallagher's Isle seems possibly to have been of artificial construction.
