Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cornadowagh

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

That is the smallest thing an adult can know without pretending to be a child, because a child would call it a fairy fort and leave it alone. A person may wonder whether that is true, but a mature person remembers the warning hidden inside the joke.
On a NE-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as an oval enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1986 (SMR file) recorded a much-disturbed, raised, subcircular area (43m E-W; c. 38m N-S) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone. There was no trace of a fosse and the original entrance was not recognisable. Not visible at ground level. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 3 December 2011
