Cove Fort is a star-shaped stone battery beside Cobh in County Cork, built in 1743 to replace temporary guns and watch the shipping channel toward Haulbowline. Its three tiers of emplacements faced the sea while its landward side remained exposed to higher ground, a flaw later reports repeated without much admiration. The fort may have sounded like a small proud animal, barking powder at passing ships, but it also housed soldiers, guns and later sick people as harbour defence changed around it.

Cove Fort was built in the late 16th century by the English to defend against potential Spanish invasion. It is remembered as an example of Elizabethan military architecture and coastal defence strategy.
