What is recorded here
Coomasaharn rock art sits in cutaway bog on a NE-facing slope above the Behy River valley, marking a place where stone, water and memory still touch. Its grooves and cupmarks cut through sandstone like a sentence half-remembered, perhaps made for prayer, boundary, game or warning. The bog has taken much more, yet this small flat surface remains clear enough to argue with the dark.
In cutaway bog, on a NE-facing slope (148m OD), overlooking Behy River valley to N. A slightly rough and fractured sandstone rock outcrop (dims. 2.90m NW-SE; 1.00m NE-SW; 0.35m (max. H at NE) with an irregular-shaped decorated surface (dims. 0.70m NW-SE; 0.45m NE-SW) at W-end, which is flat. The rock art is clearly visible and consists of a linear groove (long-axis NE-SW) which extends (L 0.47m; Wth 2cm; D 4mm) across stone. A second linear groove (L 0.44cm; Wth 1cm; D 3mm) extends from this at a right angle to SE. There are two obvious cupmarks (diam. 4cm; D 3-8mm) to NW of the first linear groove and four small ones (diam. 2.5-3.5cm; D 3-4mm) to its SE, which are arranged two either side of the second linear groove. A natural fissure (long-axis NW-SE) extends across the rock outcrop, off-centre to E.
