Standing stone in Coollicka

Standing stone

What is recorded here

Coollicka is a single standing stone in County Cork, Ireland. It is not on the 1842 or 1904 maps, appears on the 1939 map as one stone in pasture, and has been removed without a visible surface trace. A stone large enough to mark and lose may have stood where people passed, marked a boundary, or simply outlived the hands that moved it.
Not shown on 1842 and 1904 OS 6-inch maps. Marked on 1939 OS 6-inch map as single standing stone. In pasture. Removed; no visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 3: Mid Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009
