Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a fairy fort in County Cavan, Ireland. The earthen ring holds a circular space thirty-nine metres across, large enough for a small village chamber or a crowded dance. People may have lived inside the bank before trees and fields swallowed the entrance. The fort still stands, waiting for someone to remember the shape of the door.
Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 39m) enclosed by a substantial earthen bank which has been considerably modified and incorporated into the field boundary. Original entrance not recognisable. The site was formerly planted with trees. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cavan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1995). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 December 2008

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
