Hut site in Cool East

Hut site

What is recorded here

Located c. 33m NW of the entrance is a conjoined pair of huts of drystone construction, now heavily overgrown. Access to the second hut was through a 2.1m long communicating passage, now collapsed. The internal diameter of this hut is 3.7m. The interiors of both huts are largely filled with collapse, and both appear to be of semi-subterranean construction. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 445. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 28 July 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
