What is recorded here
Coniamstown still holds a medieval motte and bailey, shaping the local landscape long before modern roads or fields arrived. The earthworks suggest a small defensive settlement where people watched the land, kept fire light, and marked the boundary between owned space and open countryside. Their names are lost, but the shape of their choice remains: a raised place, enclosed and visible, built to endure.
