Enclosure in Colgagh was a small circular embanked fort, about fifteen metres across, marked in gothic lettering on the 1834 Ordnance Survey map. The drawing treated it as a known local landmark, yet no ridge, ditch or broken stone remains visible in the low pasture. The land may have swallowed the work through water, rot or repeated ploughing, leaving behind only a line drawn by a surveyor who believed someone had built it.

Set in a low-lying landscape. It is depicted as a small circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 15m) only on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. No archaeological feature is visible at ground level in pasture. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
