RATH in County Fermanagh is an archaeological site recorded for the early Christian period. A rath is a fortified enclosure, often circular or oval, built with earth or stone to protect people, animals and belongings. It may have served as a seasonal home, a refuge during storms or a marker of local authority. The ground still holds the shape of that choice, even when the buildings have vanished.
