Six centuries of forgotten fire still warm the angular stones beneath the damp Mayo grass. The mound sits twenty metres from the rath, suggesting people gathered there to boil water, cook food or cleanse the air before entering the larger earthwork. Its dark soil marks the exact place where human hands repeated the same labor until the field remembered the heat.

In lowlying expanse of rough damp pasture. Low, roughly circular mound (10.7m N-S; 9.6m E-W; H 0.4m) situated on the SE side of a natural rise. It is composed of a dense concentration of small angular stones in a matrix of dark brown soil that contrasts with the orange-brown soil elsewhere in the field.
