Cloonacannana is a rath in County Mayo where a hidden passage may still breathe beneath the soil. Local memory claims an opening once appeared in the northern slope, while a shallow semi-circular hollow above marks the place where that passage could have entered the earth. The field holds both facts and fantasy: a made chamber, a forgotten door, and the risk of burying live what others have already lost.

In a rath (MA062-028). According to local information, at one time ‘an opening’ was visible in the exterior slope of the scarp on the N side of the rath. Immediately above this location, there is a semi-circular hollow or sunken area (6.8m E-W; 5.6m N-S; D 0.6m) in the interior. This may mark the location of a Man-made underground passage.
