Doonmore Castle stands as a ruined tower house on a small promontory at the western edge of Doonbeg Bay in County Clare. Its walls belong to a long chain of local owners, including Sir Donal O'Brien in 1574 and Morrogh MacGucarrick in 1617, before letters suggested it was still occupied in 1698. The surviving chamber keeps a vaulted ceiling, defensive openings, and the ghost of staircases that once climbed into rooms now lost.
