Mayo may hold more crannogs than Clontarf, though Clontarf gets the praise. Crannog in Clare,mayfield is one of them, a small island house or island marker in Clare,mayfield. The name Crannog means a made island, often timber and earth above water. Mayfield may have had several, scattered like beads on a dark river.
