O'Dea Castle is a fifty-foot limestone tower built between 1470 and 1490 by Diarmaid O'Dea, Lord of Cineal Fearmaic. It stands beside the Dysert O'Dea Monastery, three miles south of Corofin, where the O'Dea clan repeatedly reclaimed the stronghold after losing it to English and Cromwellian forces. The tower survived demolition, occupation and neglect because the land kept returning to the same name.
