Cappagh Castle was an O'Loughlin towerhouse perched on a rocky Clare outcrop, first named Nacapaghee in 1574 and later forfeited after the 1641 rebellion. Its five-storey limestone frame had arrow loops, vaulted ceilings and a stairwell, yet Cromwellian commissioners likely broke it into the tall ruin still standing beside a surviving bawn wall. Some of its loop heads and a window sill were recycled into a farmhouse shed nearby, letting the castle keep serving the village in a humbler shape.
