Church in Saintclerans

Just off the avenue leading to St Cleran's House (GA097-146002-). On inspection only the N side-wall and the returns of the E (L 2.3m) and W (L 2.45m) walls (max. H 1m) survived of this very poorly preserved church (7.62m E-W; c. 6-7m N-S; wall T 0.6m). It was constructed of crude randomly coursed drystone limestone and the basal course was made up of massive blocks. Dressed quoinstone were visible but otherwise no architectural features survived. The interior was overgrown and rubble had been piled up over its S half. In 1959 following the discovery of human remains (GA097-146004-) to the E of it, Prof. Duignan noted that it was the 'last remnants of a small church whose masonry looks medieval' (pers. comm. M.
