Drumfea holds a small unenclosed children's burial ground immediately north of the main graveyard, marked only by a plain granite Latin cross. O'Donovan noted the place during his 1837-40 survey, capturing a quiet angle of the town where young lives ended before records or ceremony could shape them. The absence of a fence or cultivated soil does not diminish the tragedy; it refuses to dress the loss in respectability.
