Chapel in Unknown Townland

In 1348 John De Graunsete was granted permission to construct a chapel on the stone bridge of Dublin in honour of the Virgin Mary (Berry 1898, 9). It has been suggested that the building was beside the N end of the bridge (Fr Matthew) (De Courcy 1996, 343). This is referred to in the 15th century documents as 'near the bridge'. Clarke shows it on the N side of the bridge on the Inns Quay (Bradley & King 1987, vol. 2, 132). There are no visible surface remains. Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Date of upload: 14 August 2012
