Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cartronmore is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Cartronmore, County Sligo, Ireland. It occupies level ground west of a farmyard, forming a 28-metre circular area enclosed by a 0.45-metre earthen scarp. A disused laneway crosses the west side, while partial levelling and a missing fosse section show how the original shape changed.
Situated on level ground immediately to W of farmyard. Slightly raised circular area (diam. 28m) enclosed by an earthen scarp (ext. H 0.45m). At the external foot of the scarp is a fosse (Wth 5.6m; D 0.3m). From SW-N the scarped edge has been partially levelled. From SSE-N the fosse is absent. A NNE-WSW orientated disused laneway (Wth 3m), bounded by earth and stone banks on either side, crosses the W side of the site intersecting with the edge of the site at N and at SW. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 21 April 2011
