What is recorded here
Indicated is a weathered fairy fort in County Mayo, Ireland, where a fifty-metre circular scar remains visible beneath pasture and farm tracks. Cattle have worn its edges into shallow ramps, yet a mature ash tree still marks the eastern line, holding the shape against forgetting. The site resists easy description because human hands kept changing it, but the circle never fully released its claim on the land.
In pasture on a gentle SE-facing slope. A large, poorly preserved circular area (int. diam. c. 50m) is bisected by a later field boundary running E-W across the interior and truncated by a farm track running N-S through the E sector. The enclosing bank is best preserved along the S (int. H 0.2m; Wth 6m; ext. H 0.9m) but has been reduced to a scarp (H 1m) from SW-W-N-NE. The original enclosing element has been levelled from NE-SE (to the E of the later N-S farm track) but a mature ash tree grows on its line at ESE. There is a wide modern gap (Wth 4m) into the interior at SSW. The perimeter is overgrown with bushes and the enclosing scarp and interior are heavily poached by livestock.
