Megalithic structure

What is recorded here

The megalithic structure in Carrowmore (carbury By.) is in County Sligo, Ireland. Petrie recorded the circle in 1837, noting that human bones were found inside and that tenants had destroyed most of it two decades earlier. The 1838 Ordnance Survey map still marked the stones, but later editions removed them and nothing remains visible at ground level today.
This monument is indicated on the OS 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circle of stones; it is not shown on later map editions. Petrie (1837, 179, No. 41) recorded it as follows: 'In the small field to the east of that in which No 37 [SL014-209067-] is placed. Only a few stones of the circle remain. Destroyed about 20 years ago by Mr Walsh's tenants. Human bones found in the tomb.' There are no remains visible at ground level. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 30 September 2019
