Carrowgallda holds a shallow stone-cut passage inside an ancient rath, twisting east then south beneath hazel roots. The narrow channel may have guided water, people or belief through the mound, but time has blurred its purpose. What remains is a quiet line in the earth, marked by protruding stones and forgotten use.

In a rath (MA071-017----). A shallow depression (Wth 2.6–3m; D 0.45m) is evident in the W half of an E-W rise which extends across the centre of the rath interior. The depression extends from close to the rath scarp at the W into the interior for 13.5m to E and then turns to S for 5m where it becomes slightly narrower and shallower (Wth 2.4m; D 0.3m). Stones protrude randomly from the sides, and the base is moderately strewn with loose stones. The roots of hazel trees have infiltrated the depression.
