RATH in Carnearny

RATH

What is recorded here

Carnearny holds a rath, an ancient fortified place marked on the official map and protected as a scheduled site. The stones and earth may have served people long before written records, giving them shelter, status or warning under open northern skies. Much of that life has faded, but the shape remains, waiting for imagination to complete what memory has lost.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as RATH. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. Recorded protection: Scheduled. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
