Rathvilly Moat is a twenty-nine-metre earthen ringfort in County Carlow, named for a sacred tree that likely anchored a local family's identity. Tradition credits Crimthann mac Énnai, an Uí CheinnselaigKing of Leinster, with residing there before Saint Patrick baptised him. Destroying such a tree remained a common act of war, suggesting the ground still carries the memory of violent boundary disputes.
