Caerau Castle Ringwork is a medieval oval bank and ditch set inside an older Iron Age hillfort, overlooking the low ground now occupied by Cardiff. Its south-west gap, outside stone-lined spring and probable entrance tower suggest a compact fortified house rather than a grand castle. The ruined church of St Mary stands beside it, perhaps guarded by the ringwork in its time.
