What is recorded here

On the NE side of the site is a circular slot-trench enclosure approx. 25m in diameter. The slot is full of post-packing stones and no break is visible. The slot still partly lies underneath a baulk along the N LMA. Internally there are at least three curving slots, each one filled with stones but none defining a complete circle and all are small (max. 3m diam). These possibly represent buildings. The enclosure is notably positioned on a slope. Presumably, it was deliberately pitched like this to allow visibility in/out or even for drainage on this hillside (flat areas of terraces are available if they had wanted to build on them). This enclosure compares well to the Bronze Age enclosures found at Ballybrowney Lower, Co. Cork (Eamonn Cotter, 2005, 'Bronze Age Ballybrowney, County Cork' in NRA Monograph No. 2).
