What is recorded here

One account claims a cist grave holding two skeletons, another denies the cist ever existed, and that unresolved contradiction still sits at the heart of the cairn. Road builders broke the mound open in 1874 and 1875, exposing what may have been a buried chamber beneath five hollows on its flat top. Westropp wrote in 1917 that bones appeared but no cist did, leaving behind a question rather than an answer. The quarry pressing in from the south makes the ancient edge feel even more exposed, as if the land itself is forgetting which version to keep.

On a gentle S-facing slope in rough pasture. A small, flat-topped, grass-covered sub-circular cairn (base diams. 6.2m E-W; 5.8m N-S; top diams. 3.9m E-W; 3.6m N-S; H 0.2-0.4m) has a stone (L 0.8m; H 0.1m; T 0.1m) protruding from its top, oriented NE-SW.
