Creevagh’s false cairn is a glacial hillock, not a burial mound, though it entered the Offaly inventory because the Clonmacnoise landscape makes natural rises look like memory. That is the useful trick: in a country dense with real monuments, the eye wants meaning and gives it to shape. The mound resists that impulse. It is ice debris, rounded and patient, waiting for people to project their ancestors onto it. The best response is to leave the projection visible and the claim absent.

Cairn identified in 1987 survey of the Clonmacnoise area (McDonald 1987, 25). Appears to be a natural glacial hillock with no archaeological features visible.
