Carran, meaning the cairn, is a tiny Burren village where rocky pasture and ancient churches still touch daily life. It is the birthplace of Michael Cusack, who helped create the Gaelic Athletic Association, and it stands beside Slieve Carran, one of the highest points in the Burren. Saint Columb is said to have founded an abbey there, leaving behind a ruined church, a holy spring and a stone bed that people still point to with wonder.

At the SE end of a plateau on the top of the northernmost peak of Turloughmore Mountain. A cairn (diam. c. 5m) is visible on OSi Aerial Premium (2012-2018) and was noted by Ros Ó Maoldúin. Compiled by: Mary Tunney Date of upload: 19 October 2021
