Man-made underground passage in Cahermore

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Cahermore’s hidden passage still breathes beneath the SE quadrant ringfort, marked only by uneven ground and a protruding stone. People may have dug it to hide, meditate or escape rain, yet the earth keeps that purpose quiet. Walk past the stone and imagine the dark tunnel waiting, because creation often hides plain sight.
In SE quadrant ringfort (CO134-041001-) uneven ground and protruding stone indicate position of Man-made underground passage. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
