Indicated

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular enclosure near Ballinrobe, County Mayo, measuring about forty-four metres across and likely forming an ancient ringfort. It still stands beside Lough Mask and Lough Carra, keeping its shape through rain, grass and forgotten years. People may have lived, argued, loved or fled there before records began, while others walked past without knowing the land was watching back.
Shown on OS map (1929) as circular enclosure (est. max. diam. c. 44m). Probably a ringfort. Access denied. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 413. Date of upload: 24 February 2014

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
