Holy well in Caherbreagh

Holy well

What is recorded here

Sunday's Well hid inside Caherbreagh, losing its exact coordinates but keeping its holy name. People drank from water that refreshed body and spirit before forgetting the basin itself. That is typical for small sacred places, where memory flows around rocks instead of stopping inside them.
The precise location of the holy well has not been identified. Ó Danachair (1958, 163) recorded that was a; 'well in this townland is said to have been named "Sunday's Well" and to have been regarded as a holy well formerly'. Compiled by: Caimin O'Brien Date of upload: 29 April 2022

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
