What is recorded here

No visible stone ringfort remains in Caherateige, though a circular cashel once stood there. The vanished fort may have marked a boundary, a home or a warning, but the earth has taken back its shape.

In rock outcrop. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 265, no. 12b) as a circular ‘Stone fort’ (diam. c. 23.4m) defined by a drystone wall. There was a ‘a modern structure 21'x 18' [c. 9.7m by c. 5.5m] overall’ outside the monument at SW. No visible surface trace survives.
