What is recorded here

Cadamstown Church in County Offaly still wears the carved head and hood moulding taken from the Romanesque Church of Letter. Men inserted them into the west gable during the nineteenth century, treating ancient stone as decoration rather than memory. Behind the new plaster, an Early Christian cross slab waited for discovery, proving the building contained more history than its makers knew.

The stone sculptures consist of one carved head (OF037-013001-) which was used as a corbel in the Romanesque Church of Letter (OF037-002001-) and the other is a Hood moulding terminal with Hiberno-Romanesque decoration. Both of these pieces were inserted into the W gable of Cadamstown Church in the 19th-century. Recent replastering of the W gable revealed Early Christian cross inscribed slab (OF037-013002-).
