Butterfield Avenue still bends around a hidden church, preserving the shape of a sacred ground now buried under Dublin soil. Archaeologists opened the earth in 1997 and found death itself, confirming that the curve was not accidental but a boundary drawn for worship and mourning. The road remembers what the city forgot: a place set apart for the living and the dead.

The first edition OS 6-inch sheet shows a curvilinear area formed by a bend in the old road, Butterfield Avenue, and the surrounding field boundaries which probably indicates the former presence of an ecclesiastical enclosure.
