What is recorded here

Six male bodies lay scattered across the Trim Castle lawn, their bones fragmented and stripped of visible grave cuts. Five faced southwest while one broke rank toward the southeast, suggesting either a forgotten ritual or a desperate hasty burial. Radiocarbon dating places them between the third and fourteenth centuries, spanning a millennium of unseen violence or neglect. They gave up no cause of death, only the shape of their alignment and the stubborn fact that they were men.

Archaeological testing (E002016) during 2007 recovered the remains of six interments on Trim Castle lawn. They were all in a fragmentary condition and were dispersed over a fairly wide area (dims c. 15m x c. 10m), with one more isolated burial. Five were aligned SW-NE with the head at SW and the isolated one was aligned SE-NW with the head at SE but grave-cuts were not recognised. Five were adult males as the sixth probably was also, but the cause of death is not known in any instance (Coughlan 2009). Two of the burials returned calibrated radiocarbon dates of AD 128-1396 and 1267-1389.
