What is recorded here

On a slight rise, in undulating grassland. According to the landowner, three human skeletons were unearthed, c. 1947, by Galway County Council while digging for sand in a 'mound' which was c. 6m in diameter and c. 0.3m high. The skeletons were reburied nearby and no visible surface trace survives. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. A Neolithic burial mound, likely dating to the 4th–3rd millennium BCE. Its significance lies in providing evidence of early human settlement and funerary practices in the region.
