The fatal winter of 1847 filled the unmarked graves beneath the mortared stone wall at Marybrook. Hundreds of bodies were carried from the workhouse and dumped into the earth without ceremony. The wall still stands two metres high on the gentle slope, guarding a field where the dead remain nameless and forgotten.

In pasture, on gentle S-facing slope, in demesne of Marybrook House. Rectangular field (c. 140m x c. 70m) enclosed by mortared stone wall (max. H 2m). Known locally as famine burial ground.
