Knockalla Fort is a rounded two-storey Martello tower built around 1810 to guard Lough Swilly during the Napoleonic Wars. Its roof-mounted guns, flanking walls, dry moat and sunken approach road formed one of six nearby coastal defences in County Donegal. The tower still stands above An Poll Beag and Poll Uí Bhaoid, preserving the shape of a wartime warning written in stone.

The official built-heritage record describes a two-storey rounded tower with gun mounts on its roof, defensive walls, a dry moat, firing holes and a sunken approach road. It was one of six nearby forts built to protect the Donegal coast and Lough Swilly during the Napoleonic Wars.
